SEMINARS
Exploring the 8 R’s of Meditation – Saturday, 4 July, 4.15-6.15pm
What is meditation? Meditation is the discovery of that point of silence within, like a compass needle that guides us in the right direction at the right time. To become silent, to be still in the ocean of hectic, noisy action, is a choice many people are now making. When this is achieved, this stillness acts on the mind like oxygen, giving the breath to both understand and enrich life. Of course action is a necessity, however, if we do not sometimes stop and take a breath of silence, then:
- the mind begins to suffocate
- thoughts speed like bullet trains
- the brain feels as if it is in a pressure cooker
- emotions erupt and react like volcanoes
Come and find that point of silence within which will recharge your mind with peace, clarity and balance.

Secondly, our responsibilities in our chosen career. Thirdly, to our other interests, whether they be community service, sport or just our own recreation. Neglecting one can create stress. Enthusiasm, optimism and contentment are among the keys that can free us from chains of bondage. We learn that these qualities spring from faith in the goodness of the self and life. Love enables us to feel good. Love is in all of us, but needs to be tended with spirituality. If we demand love from the world around us, we destroy our ability to receive love.

It’s Time……or is it? (20 September 2014) – Arun Nijhawan
How often does one make new year resolutions but then fail to keep up with them after a few weeks? What influences us to impose such challenges to ourselves in the first place? Usually, it is our own inherent desire to be a better human being. Unfortunately, we are more or less stuck in our old pattern of habits, thinking and behaviour which makes change difficult.. In addition, we are passing through a critical time in this world, where the negative influences are all around us. Ever wondered what could be done to initiate a change in our own life? This depends on how we answer this simple question: It’s Time……or is it?

Balancing A Healthy Body and Healthy Mind (7 June 2014) – Sybil Nijhawan and Mahima Amin
Is a “Healthy Mind” a “Healthy Body”? Being healthy mentally can often translate to being healthy physically. Scientific research has shown us that the human brain has a dramatic effect on our internal organs and body functions. In fact, a positive mental attitude can make your immune system more effective. Your body will be able to recover at a quicker pace, along with being able to fight off things that otherwise would not have been able to. To create a healthy balanced life our mind, body, heart and soul should be in harmony. Meditation is a tool that connects us with our core values, nature and each other, which facilitates reaching a higher understanding of our purpose and true-selves. Remember positive thoughts are the key for good health which is your wealth!

Freedom from Desires (10 May 2014) – Muazzam Abdul Rehman and Sona Bahri
The sorry state of the world, and the ever-increasing corruption and erosion of values can be put down in large part to desires. The division between the ‘Haves and Have Nots’ is increasing. In truth no-one wins because everyone is suffering. Perhaps it’s time to live more simply and more authentically. A desire is a shadow that keeps us running after it, a mirage that tempts us appearing to be real. Inner emptiness drives us to chase after external desires. Our craving for physical objects is a sign of discontent within the soul. We try to fill the void by accumulating ever more. And even after getting ‘it’, there is still the desire for more and more, which implies, ‘it’ was never enough and never will be! In fact greed is a bottomless pit that never ever gets filled. Greed and desire create a pattern of reliance on material objects and co-dependant relationships…which often bring us limited and very temporary happiness. To be free from desires requires a process of replenishing the inner being with love and joy, quite independent of what I have on the outside. Come to an enlightening workshop to identify your cravings and desires and gently bid them farewell.
Freedom from Attachment (3 May 2014) – Sona Bahri and Elaine Pretorius
Attachment begins with the word ‘mine’. Attachment is essentially what makes us take life too seriously simply because we make ourselves slaves to the objects of our attachments. In such moments we don’t have possessions, it’s as if our possessions have us. True freedom from attachment means to be free from everything around us including matter, material things, memories, ambitions etc. But it’s only possible when we see and realise that our attachments are not ‘in reality’ out there! Our attachments are created within our own consciousness. It’s not the actual objects or persons that we attempt to attach to. The inner state of freedom from attachment gives rise to the feeling of bliss that is already there but it’s been suppressed and buried. Liberation from attachment happens when we not only stop attempting to possess but realise its impossible to possess!
It’s OK! – Saturday (19 April 2014) – Gosia Bekker

Why ME Why HERE Why NOW?’ Rediscovering the purpose and meaning of your life – (17 December 2012) – Mike George
- For some people the question ‘why’ seems to hang permanently in the background of their life. It shows up as a voice in their head that often says, “Why am I doing this…What am I doing here?” They are always searching for answers to ‘something’, as if it’s built into their nature. Others are occasionally brought to an abrupt halt in their life by an event or a crisis that invokes a deep ‘why on earth did that just happen’ moment. The search in both cases is for a sense of identity and meaning, context and connection. The answers are of course always within us but we don’t know why we cannot hear them or see them! If we didn’t already know the answers we could not create the questions!
- What am I missing and why? Is it time to call off the search?
- What’s the point and why? Is there really a reason to be here?
- Where to next and why? Is the future so important it has to consume our life NOW?
